The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) has joined forces with financial data provider Bloomberg to establish a world-class finance laboratory to facilitate advanced learning and research studies.

‘SET  Fin Lab’ at SET’s Maruay Library in Bangkok will enable university partners and capital market researchers to develop human resources, enhance knowledge, and strengthen foundation for the benefit of the Thai capital market.

SET aims to develop the capital market to benefit all sectors under the vision ‘To Make the Capital Market Work for Everyone’. One of the key missions is to nurture and develop quality personnel spanning university students, securities professionals and capital market researchers for the Thai capital market.

Pakorn Peetathawatchai,  SET president, said: “Given drastic technology developments and emerging financial innovation, personnel in the capital market, including those who want to become professionals, need to develop and sharpen skills regularly. “SET Fin Lab” is geared up to motivate learning, with real practical exercises equipped with financial tools used by professionals in global capital markets.

“Initially, SET has kicked start the collaboration with eight pilot universities in bringing in finance students to gain experience. As for researchers, they can access the updated financial and investment information, with reliable database for quality research works, eventually enhancing the capital market research potential to complete both in theory and practice. Notably, SET will evaluate and develop the services continuously so that the “SET Fin Lab” can entirely cater to the capital market personnel development.”

Steven Yankelson, head of financial products enterprise sales for ASEAN, Bloomberg Singapore, said that by creating experiences and encouraging opportunities with practical applications from real tools via the Bloomberg for Education financial program, it will provide opportunities for the learners to access the same information that the professionals use in their work.

SET Fin Lab first opened its doors on 10 August and will be available Monday to Saturday at Maruay Library in the SET building.
