Associated Press appoints two to race and ethnicity team


The Associated Press has tapped Graham Lee Brewer and Terry Tang to serve as race and ethnicity reporters. Both will help cover identity, culture, politics and justice.

In their new roles, Brewer will be based in Oklahoma City, and Tang will be based in Phoenix. They begin on Dec. 11.

Graham Lee Brewer

Since April 2021, Brewer has been at NBC News serving as national investigative reporter. He also reported for The Oklahoman for more than a decade. His work also appeared in ProPublica, Teen Vogue, BuzzFeed News, The New York Times and NPR.

Brewer has a B.A. and M.A. in journalism from the University of Oklahoma.

Tang has been with the AP for more than a decade, joining in 2006 as a general assignment and race/ethnicity reporter. She then transitioned into a reporter/editorial role and later became weekend breaking news supervisor.

She freelanced for Palo Alto Weekly in California and interned at Wired, Entertainment Weekly and Variety.

Tang graduated from UCLA.
