More than 500K homes and businesses are without power along the U.S. East Coast early Wednesday following a massive winter storm that also caused flooding and grounded flights.
Nearly 543K customers across 11 states from Michigan to Florida were without electricity, with New York the hardest hit state with 140K out of power, followed by Pennsylvania with 94K outages and New Jersey with 55K outages, according to the latest statistics from PowerOutage.us.
The biggest power companies in those states are units of Con Edison (ED) in New York, FirstEnergy (FE) in Pennsylvania, and Public Service Electric and Gas (PEG) in New Jersey.
Winds and rain also have hit air travel, grounding 642 flights around the U.S. early Wednesday, led by New York’s LaGuardia airport with 82 cancellations.
The storm is leading what will likely be the coldest U.S. weather since December 2022, according to data from financial firm LSEG.
