The US Cellular (NYSE:USM) and Telephone and Data Systems (NYSE:TDS) strategic review is attracting interest from wireless players as well as private equity firms.
First-rounds bids in the sale process have been collected, and Verizon (VZ), AT&T (T), and T-Mobile (TMUS), as well as private equity firms, are showing interest, according a Dealreporter item on Friday, which cited sources familiar with the matter.
The PE firms are said to be especially interested in the towers and would likely jettison the spectrum and telecom units, according to the report.
US Cellular (USM) announced in early August that it was exploring strategic alternatives. Telephone and Data Systems (TDS), which owns about 80% of US Cellular, said that its board and the board of USM decided to initiate a strategic review for USM.
