New York Fries, a concept that offers a variety of plain and loaded French fries, just opened its first location on Long Island at Roosevelt Field in Garden City.

New York Fries got its start as a small fry shop at Manhattan’s South Street Seaport in 1983 and later became a staple at food courts throughout Canada, where poutine, French fries topped with gravy and cheese, is a national favorite.

Besides poutine, the menu at New York Fries features fresh-cut French-fried potatoes served plain or loaded with a variety of toppings including beef chili, pulled pork, queso and crumbled bacon. The brand also offers all-beef grilled hot dogs and several loaded dog options.

“This New York opening marks a significant milestone for us,” Craig Burt, COO at New York Fries, said in a company statement. “As a brand that got its start serving three sizes of fresh-cut fries and three sizes of soda in New York City back in 1983, we’re thrilled to make our official return and bring our fry-based menu to fry-lovers across the state and eventually across the East Coast.”

In 2015 the New York Fries chain was acquired by Recipe Unlimited Corporation, a Canadian food conglomerate. There are now more than 130 New York Fries locations throughout Canada and the Middle East. The chain also plans to soon open a location at the Smith Haven Mall.
