The first lady, Jill Biden, has tested positive for COVID-19, according to a statement from an official.

What Happened: Elizabeth Alexander, the first lady’s communication director, said on Monday, “This evening, the First Lady tested positive for COVID-19.  She is currently experiencing only mild symptoms.  She will remain at their home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.”

In a separate statement issued by the White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, it was disclosed that President Joe Biden was administered a COVID-19 test in the evening.

“The President tested negative. The President will test at a regular cadence this week and monitor for symptoms.”

It should be noted that President Biden is scheduled to participate in the G20 summit, which is being held in New Delhi, India beginning Sept. 9.

Why It Matters: In July 2022, President Biden tested positive for COVID-19. At the time it was disclosed that Biden was fully vaccinated and had received two booster doses of the vaccine.

In August last year, Jill Biden tested positive for a rebound case of COVID-19 while vacationing in Kiawah Island, South Carolina, reported CNN.
