EMI Licence Luxembourg

3S Money has received its Electronic Money Institution (EMI) licence from the Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF) in Luxembourg.

London-based 3S Money joins the ranks of only 12 other companies that have been granted such a licence by the CSSF, marking a major milestone for the fintech’s European expansion ambitions.

The fintech, which reported 400 per cent year-on-year growth in 2020, will now further expand its European activity and offering across the European Economic Area (EEA).

The new licence will enable 3S Money to provide local European IBANs and cross-border payment solutions to European businesses.

With slow economic growth forecast for 2022 and 2023, small- to medium-sized businesses need more support than ever before in scaling across borders.

With this licence, 3S Money plans to build on the existing services and capacity already offered to its clients across the EEA. It will enable the fintech to bring its cross-border payments and foreign exchange (FX) solutions to a growing number of clients with business interests and ambitions of scaling in Europe.

“As we look to expand our business account and trade finance offering, Luxembourg is the ideal location to become our European headquarters. This is a huge milestone in achieving our mission to break down barriers for businesses looking to scale globally,” explains Ivan Zhiznevskiy, CEO of 3S Money.

“Luxembourg has historically been a major financial centre with 122 authorised banks, and continues to grow as a top Fintech destination. We are delighted that the CSSF has granted 3S Money an EMI licence and we are proud to be associated with such a forward-thinking country.”

3S Money continues to invest in its expansion across its key regions by attracting new talent in the UK, Dubai, Latvia and now Luxembourg, further building out its compliance, product, and business development teams, planning also to invest in research and development in the region. 3S Money has an office in The Luxembourg House of Fintech, the country’s fintech hub.

Launched in 2018, 3S Money has already reached profitability. The fintech scaleup connects corporations to their customers globally by providing them with local business accounts to send and receive funds through all major payment rails.

After launching in the UK, 3S Money now provides local business accounts to entrepreneurs with payment capabilities in over 190 countries.
