Walsh departs Ireland's People Newspapers after nearly half a century

Production Editor Toddy Walsh signed off on his career last week after an incredible 48 years with the local newspaper company and received a delightful send-off from colleagues past and present at a special retirement party at the Swan Bar in The Faythe.

Toddy’s career at People Newspapers began as an apprentice printer in November 1974, working in the jobbing shop, which was the commercial printing section. After a year, be moved to the newspaper end of the business working as a compositor, under the watchful eye of production manager Pat Sutton and managing director Austin Channing.

On the night, Toddy thanked Regional Group Editor Jim Hayes, People Newspapers Group Editor Darragh Clifford, advertising executive Bernie Kehoe and all his colleagues for ensuring such a great send-off. In a nod to his musical talents, Toddy ditched the farewell speech in favour of an original song to the tune of the Saw Doctors’ “I Useta Love Her.”
