Senator Ted Cruz Blasts Biden's Potential Alcohol Policy: 'If They Want Us To Drink Two Beers A Week, Frankly, They Can Kiss My Ass'

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) has taken to Twitter to express his disapproval of the Biden administration’s proposed alcohol guidelines, sparking a debate on public health and personal freedom.

What Happened: Senator Cruz voiced his disagreement, in a video that he reposted on X, with a proposal from President Joe Biden‘s health administration. The policy suggests that Americans limit their alcohol intake to just two beers a week.

“Now these idiots have come out and said ‘drink two beers a week,’ that’s their guideline. If they want us to drink two beers a week, frankly, they can kiss my ass,” said Cruz in the video.

The post comes in response to recent reports indicating the Biden administration’s. supposed intent to revise alcohol consumption guidelines. The new policy, as stated by a health official, could recommend a maximum of two drinks per week.

Why It Matters: This proposed policy has stirred controversy, with Republican lawmakers labeling the recommendations as ‘ridiculous’. The White House press secretary has sidestepped questions about whether President Joe Biden intends to limit Americans’ beer intake, stating she would “leave it to the experts,” reported The New York Post.

Multiple GOP lawmakers were critical of National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) director George Koob’s comments in an interview that the U.S. could follow Canada in updating the recommended intake of alcohol, reported Fox News.

Canada recently issued new alcohol consumption guidelines from two drinks a day for men to two drinks a week, according to the report.

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.), who himself doesn’t drink, said the new potential recommendations were “ridiculous.”

“This is what happens when 30 million Americans don’t vote,” Burchett said, according to Fox News. “Overpaid unelected bureaucrats sticking their fat noses somewhere it does not belong.”
