The PSEG Foundation announced on Wednesday that it has provided more than $1 million in grants to 301 nonprofits, many of them on Long Island as well as in New Jersey.

The support is part of the foundation’s Neighborhood Partners Program (NPP), whose awards range from $500 to $21,000. The program aims to support “community-based organizations focused on addressing the inequities and inequalities in under-recognized communities,” according to a news release about the this year’s charitable giving.

“Through the NPP, we continue to partner with organizations dedicated to creating people-centered solutions that positively impact and uplift local and underserved communities,” Calvin Ledford Jr., president of PSEG Foundation and director of corporate social responsibility, said in a written statement.

The funding comes at a time of decreased charitable giving. Charitable giving from corporations, foundations, individuals, and bequests to support the work of nonprofits dropped 10.5 percent in 2022 compared to 2021, the National Council of Nonprofits reported in June.

Grants of more than $5,000 awarded by PSEG Foundation went to such Long Island organizations as Arbor Day Foundation for its tree-planting program, Family Service League for general operating costs, and Island Harvest for its hunger-relief efforts.

“To realize the world we all aspire to, we must invest, support and nourish organizations centered on fostering more inclusive, sustainable and equitable communities for all,” Ledford said.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the hardworking individuals doing the difficult but very necessary work to improve lives,” he added. “Your efforts are truly appreciated and celebrated.
