Long Island native is elevated to Navy rear admiral
Paul Lanzilotta of Commack, who currently serves as the director of fleet integrated readiness analysis for U.S. Fleet Forces Command was promoted to rear admiral during a December ceremony at the USFF headquarters in Norfolk, Va. Rear Admiral Lanzilotta was joined by his wife of 26 years, and his son, Matthew, who is currently enrolled at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
Comissioned through the Naval Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program, Lanzilotta also earned his wings of gold as a naval flight officer. He is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and earned a master’s degree ins systems engineering from the Johns Hopkins University.
National Grid wraps up successful 2023 season of giving
In concluding a busy year of charitable and philanthropic activities, National Grid spearheaded several efforts to help out Long Islanders in need. This included helping to address hunger and food insecurity by aiding local food banks, as well as supporting the region’s veterans.
“Our teams live and work in the communities we are privileged to serve,” Brian Sapp, National Grid’s director of external affairs, Long Island, said in a written statement. “This Season of Giving, we’re showing our gratitude by partnering with several local organizations to volunteer and provide donations to make a positive impact in the lives of our neighbors and friends. Our employees exemplify National Grid’s deep commitment to our communities.”
The utility provider’s many efforts are part of Project C, which is a corporate responsibility and impact initiative to support at least one of the four key pillars of community building and development.
Legislator Davis commemorates Martin Luther King, Jr., Day
To honor and remember the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr., this past week Nassau County Legislator Scott Davis visited the Rockville Centre Community Center as part of its standing-room only event. The agenda included an esteemed speaker roster, as well as musical performances honoring King’s legacy.
Davis also serves as vice president of the RVC Friends of MLK, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting programming for the community center.
“Rockville Centre’s MLK Community Center is a vibrant extension of Dr. King’s lifelong pursuit of equality, empowerment, and dignity for every marginalized member of our society. This year’s celebration offered a heartwarming reminder that his mission lives on in all of us, and especially within the young people who will soon lead our society,” Davis said in a written statement.
FSC reduces greenhouse gas emissions with EV fleet expansion
Farmingdale State College has increased its campus electric vehicle fleet, moving closer to its fossil-fuel-free goal by 2035. The campus added two new Nissan Leaf EVs, which join the college’s 2013 Toyota Prius and 2013 Chevy Volt.
“We expanded our EV fleet ahead of Gov. Hochul’s executive order for all state agencies to achieve certain sustainability and emissions goals,” Greg O’Connor, FSC’s executive vice president and CFO, said in a written statement. “Combined with our campus bike share program, water conservation initiatives and planned upgrades to our HVAC systems and installation of green energy technology in our new science building, the vision is to exceed those benchmarks.”
FSC also received an honorable mention as a bike friendly university from the League of American Bicyclists in October.
