Washington Post publisher Fred Ryan announced during a town hall meeting with employees that the company would axe some positions, including some in the newsroom early next year.
The move comes as the company looks to focus on different coverage areas.
Ryan further added that the cuts would amount to a single-digit percentage of the staff and that the plans will be finalized in the coming weeks.
In a statement, the Post said that the cuts were part of a plan to “invest in coverage, products, and people in service of providing high value to our subscribers and new audiences.”
It remains to be seen whether the Post moves some of the displaced journalists to other positions. The Post also continues to regularly announce numerous hires and promotions — many over the last quarter of 2022 — as covered by Talking Biz News.
