Devon Creek Landscaping, a growing Bohemia-based commercial landscaping company, has launched a franchising initiative to further expand its reach.

Devon Creek’s founder Steven Alessandro always had an entrepreneurial spirit.

Alessandro started his first landscaping business in 1990 after graduating from Smithtown East High School, selling the company 15 years later.

After he explored other businesses to go into, Alessandro and his wife Veronica decided to stick to what he knew best and opened a commercial landscaping enterprise called Lawn Elements in 2009.

Since then, the company has branched out, adding a location in Charlotte, N.C., changing its name to Devon Creek in 2023, and it’s now formed Devon Creek Franchise Group, to bring other budding landscape maintenance entrepreneurs into the fold.

“For over 30 years I have been involved in growing landscape design/build and maintenance companies by applying a proven system of management,” Alessandro said. “I have seen this business expand from a novel trade to a multi-billion-dollar industry, and it’s now time for us to bring franchisees into the Devon Creek family.”

The new franchisor is currently seeking franchisees for North Carolina and South Carolina, with a goal of eventually expanding to other states. The all-in cost for a Devon Creek franchise ranges from $75,000 to $117,000, with much of that going towards equipment. The investment for a conversion franchise, converting an existing landscape business to the Devon Creek brand, ranges from $31,600 to $117,000, according to Alessandro.

Devon Creek franchisees will be supported by marketing and promotional programs, sales collateral, advertising, websites, and social media. The company also offers franchisees hands-on training, proprietary job costing systems, estimating software, corporate consultation, and one-on-one management mentorship.

“We want to make sure they have everything they need to be successful,” Alessandro said. He added that the ideal franchisees need to be able to work outdoors, work with their hands and follow directions. They will also need to have some business acumen to acquire property owners for their client rosters.

Devon Creek is not looking for franchisees for Long Island, since it already operates here. The company provides lawn care, landscape maintenance and snow removal for a wide variety of commercial properties, college campuses, shopping centers and multifamily communities, such as Meadowbrook Pointe in Westbury, for which it earned an award from the National Association of Landscape Professionals.

With the new franchising company, Alessandro is hoping to impart that award-winning performance to other entrepreneurs.

“It’s not enough to deliver a superior product. Customers today look for superior process and service, and that comes from a culture of solid management,” he said. “I’m very pleased that our franchisees will soon be able to leverage these same tools across the U.S., which have proven so successful for us.”
