Former First Lady And Mental Health Champion Rosalynn Carter Dies At 96

Rosalynn Carter, former first lady and mental health activist, passed away at the age of 96 on Sunday.

According to CNN, Carter’s demise was confirmed by the Carter Center. She died peacefully in her home in Plains, Georgia, with her family near her side.

Her husband, former President Jimmy Carter, described her as his “equal partner.” He expressed in a statement how she offered him invaluable guidance and support throughout their life together.

The Carter Center had reported on Friday that the former first lady had been admitted to hospice care. She was diagnosed with dementia earlier this year in May. Former President Carter has also been receiving home hospice care since February 2023 after a number of hospital stays.
