Certilman Balin names new managing partner


Changes are afoot at Certilman Balin Adler & Hyman.

After 34 years, Bernard Hyman will be stepping down from his role as managing partner, while continuing to serve on the firm’s executive committee and concentrate on his tax certiorari clients.  Howard Stein will be the firm’s new managing partner, effective Jan. 1, 2023.

Stein chairs the firm’s real estate group and also serves on its executive committee.  He had high praise for Hyman and his leadership.

Of Hyman, Stein said in a statement:  “Bunny has led our firm for over three decades. His imprint is evident on the firm’s success.  I am honored that my partners feel confident in me to continue what he has created. His are big shoes to fill.”

Stein’s focus includes offering in counsel on real property acquisitions, downtown redevelopments, sales, leasing, real estate finance and loan workouts, as well as assisted living communities and senior condominium living. He serves on the Board of Governors of Touro Law Center and was chairman from 2005 until 2022.  As community leader, he serves on the boards of both ABLI as well as Vision Long Island.  He also actively champions for charitable causes.

Hyman said the firm will do well under Stein’s leadership.

“Managing our firm was one of the greatest joys in my life,” Hyman said in a statement.

“I know that Howie will continue to grow our firm, engage our people and provide the best services for our clients,” he added. “With his reach into the community, there are so many possibilities. I look forward to continuing my work in the field of real estate valuation and looking ahead to our future.”
