Noel DiGerolamo, former president of the Suffolk County Police Benevolent Association, is joining Melville-based McBride Consulting as a managing partner.
DiGerolamo, who served in the military police during the Persian Gulf War, has had a long career in law enforcement. He joined the New York City Police Department in 1992 and became a member of the Suffolk County Police Department three years later, becoming involved in PBA leadership shortly after. DiGerolamo was elected Suffolk PBA president in 2012 and served three terms before retiring in Nov. 2023. He was most recently part of the transition team appointed by incoming Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine.
“While law enforcement has defined much of my career, the reality is much of what I accomplished during my tenure as head of the Suffolk County PBA was about finding solutions to issues based on insight, respectful discussions, and compromise,” DiGerolamo said in a written statement. “I look forward to bringing that skill to the broad range of clients in the McBride portfolio.”
Robert McBride, president and CEO of McBride Consulting, said DiGerolamo’s expertise is self-evident since he oversaw all management and budget aspects of the Suffolk PBA, an organization that’s essentially a multimillion-dollar corporation.
“His skill at ensuring a fair and appropriate benefits contract for his membership will be a high bar for years to come,” McBride said in the statement. “And his government affairs credentials were revealed as he served as the PBA’s direct liaison to the Suffolk County Legislature and the executive branch of Suffolk County government.”
In addition to role with the PBA, DiGerolamo organized all of Suffolk’s municipal unions to create the Suffolk Coalition of Public Employees (SCOPE), representing all county employees and retirees for healthcare benefits. He is credited with negotiating the longest healthcare agreement in Suffolk County history and working collaboratively with management to administer the existing health benefit plan for over 47,000 county employees, retirees and dependents.
“I would like to think I can approach this next career chapter with the ability to harness my various skills on behalf of the public and private sectors here on Long Island, New York and Albany, where McBride Consulting has a significant and respected presence,” DiGerolamo said in the statement.
During DiGerolamo’s leadership, the Suffolk PBA supported a number of nonprofits, including Special Olympics, YMCA of Long Island, Maryhaven Center for Hope, Make-A-Wish Foundation, United Way, EJ Autism Foundation, and many others. He said he will continue to offer assistance to charitable organizations.
“My change of command doesn’t alter the fact that these and similar organizations require the support that enables them to address an enormous need in our communities,” he said.
